SpecKareTM 7309 is pure Caprylhydroxamic Acid (CHA) an organic amino acid derived from coconut oil with NOI (Natural Origin Index) = 79,9% with the Chem/IUPAC Name: Octanamide, N-Hydroxy.

Though gentle and natural, CHA is a powerful and versatile antimicrobial agent for mild hygiene products.

As a kind of extremely weak organic acid, CHA has the unique characteristic of keeping in a non-ionization state, in a pH range from acid to neutral, where most acid preservatives are ineffective. CHA can therefore be used in wider pH range, even in nearly neutral pH, which makes it more suitable to a mild formula than all inorganic and most organic acids, only effective in a very aggressive pH such as 3-4.

CHA works through its capacity of chelating metal ions, that affects the microorganism enzymatic and metabolic processes, combined to its carbon chain length (C8) that can effectively penetrate the cell membrane, unbalancing the microorganism activity. CHA is therefore an effective, performing antimicrobial agent for many different applications, but these days it could turn out to be even more interesting as a support for cleansing products, if we think that Coronavirus belongs to the category of capsule membrane/coated virus.

SpecKareTM 7309 is a preservative and broad spectrum anti-fungal agent. It is also a component along with GSE in PrzvFree® Plus

CHA, unlike many other more common preservatives, is very effective at neutral pH levels. It is also a chelating agent of iron ions; low iron environments show lower levels of mould growth. CHA is thought to be a replacement to parabens, which are a widely used preservative but have numerous health and safety concerns associated with them.
