Tanbest™ DHA – (1, 3-Dihydroxyacetone)
When DHA is applied to the skin, it causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells producing a darkening effect (Maillard reaction).
DHA does not damage skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis (stratum corneum). The brown colouring appears after a reaction time of 2 hours; it can not be washed off, but fades as the upper layers of the epidermis are shed.

﹒Incorporation in skin care formulations for daily use to prepare or to prolong the suntan.
Usage levels:
- 2 – 5% DHA in day care applications.
- 5 – 8% DHA in classical self-tanning products.
- 8 – 15% DHA in spray-tanning applications.
DHA should be processed cold (<35 ℃) and is incorporated into the aqueous phase or into the finished formulation. Slightly acidic pH of ca.4, ensures stability of DHA.
