SpecKare®PCAN – Sodium PCA (PCA-Na) is the Sodium salt of Pyroglutamic acid – an uncommon amino acid found naturally in many proteins.
Sodium PCA is a natural humectant derived from L-Glutamic acid and is known to be abundant in human skin as a component of NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor).
It has become an important additive ingredient in skin-care and hair-care cosmetics in recent years. It occurs naturally in human skin and is responsible for binding moisture to the cells. It has a stronger hydrating power than that of Glycerin, Sorbitol and Propanediol.
The hydrating power of Sodium PCA has been shown to be 1.5 x of Glycerin, 2 x of Propanediol, and 6 x of Sorbitol when they are under the same environmental conditions.
Sodium PCA is highly water-absorbent, holding several time its weight in water, which makes it an excellent humectant. It is also a well-known skin-penetration enhancer. Stronger hydrating agent than the traditional compounds like glycerin or propylene glycol. Good for hair care as it reduces static electricity.
It is a COSMOS certified natural ingredient.
